When I first started reading Mother's Helper, I had mixed feelings. It jumps right into the action with Mary, the main female character, being chased and then coming back to her apartment and not having idea what had happened, and her apartment looking as it was ransacked. Tom, a detective inspector, has been handling Mary's "problem" (for lack of a better word) since the beginning. I kind of felt like my mind was all over the place with this going on and that going on and then this character then that character. I didn't feel that way for long and the ball kept rolling. Then I would go back to feeling that way again. It was a kind of back and forth. Mother's Helper is not a hard read, it's fast paced and full of suspense, but maybe a little too fast paced.
From the first few chapters I was screaming in my head at Mary and Tom, the attraction is obvious, well I guess to me it was, but not to them. I kept thinking "Oh come on already! Why can't you see it?? You need each other!"
There were plenty of creepy parts throughout. From Mary's visions, to a severed hand found in her shower, mysterious phone calls and "people" showing up out of nowhere to the key to everything, Mary's mother's ring. People are not who (or what) they seem and time is running out to stop the evil and the killings.
A little scary, a little evil, a little romance all wrapped up in a bundle. There were a few grammatical errors but it really is a great read and I definitely recommend. I was completely sucked into Mary and Tom's lives and had no idea how this read was going to end. Now this part is just killing me...I would really like to give this read 4 stars but it's going to have to be 3 for the fact that there is room for improvement, my feelings while reading the book, and grammatical errors. Now...it's October, the perfect time for a creepy read so get your copy and dive right in!!!
