This is probably a 4.5, a great read! I read Kluger's other book, Apollo 8 and though the history was interesting the story was slow and a little boring. Apollo 13 is anything but. Yes, it is technical and you come out of it either lost or much more knowledgeable, but the story is compelling and the characters brought to life.

If you are a fan of the space program and/or the moon missions, this is a must-read/listen. I've seen Apollo 13 too many times to count along with the From the Earth to the Moon HBO series, but this book fills in so many missing parts of the story directly from the commander of the mission. Who better to know what really happened than Jim Lovell?
I got the Audible version of this and the narration is absolutely wonderful. I can't recommend this book enough and I am sure I will be listening to it many times in the future.

Ik denk dat het duidelijk is dat dit boek niet is geschreven door een echte schrijver maar door een astronaut. Ik vond het moeilijk om doorheen te komen omdat je op sommige momenten word gebombardeerd door feiten, begrippen en namen. Als iemand die hiervoor niets wist van ruimtevaart voelde dit boek soms als iets wat ik voor school uit mijn hoofd moest leren.
Op de spannende momenten dat er echt iets gebeurd was ik wel geïntrigeerd. Deze momenten voelden oprechter. Niet als een bewijs dat de auteur weet waar hij het over heeft.
Ik denk dat dit boek geschikt is voor lezers die al enig weet hebben van ruimtereizen of voor lezers die misschien gewoon wat slimmer zijn dan ik.
Al met al voelt dit als een boek dat de schrijver vooral voor zichzelf heeft geschreven en niet voor de lezer.
