This book is really well-intentioned, and I can think of several adults who'd love to read this aloud as a discussion starter, but I can't think of any kids who'd get drawn into it. The muted art, the long, didactic text - I found it drab, and I'm a huge fan of recycling! So I liked it as an adult, but won't be hand-selling it to any kids any time soon.

The concept is good but I felt this was a bit long. A plastic grocery bag floats all around the town, occasionally being picked up and used for various purposes, sometimes just left littering the landscape. It makes the point that we need to reuse such items, and back matter explains that each person who switches to cloth bags cuts 22,000 plastic bags over a lifetime.

Watercolor illustrations.

Ordinarily, I read a few picture books to my preschooler at night while my husband reads a chapter book with our second grader. On a whim we switched last night and I read this book to my second grader. Thank goodness I didn't attempt it with the four-year-old. The pictures are beautiful but the story is far too long for a picture book. About halfway through I couldn't wait for it to end. And really, for a book about recycling, in my opinion it hardly showed the damage that a floating plastic bag can do to our environment. The best part of the book was the information on the back page about the damage bags cause and how many we use each year, etc.
