I came across this novel after the Anime Empire of Corpses which is based on project Itoh's novels. A great SciFi think piece, on our responsibilities and how much we carry them when we live in a world of nightmares and comfort.

His book "Harmony" was better, but this is still an impressive first novel.

I got this book in the story bundle collection. This book is deep, heavily political and extremely philosophical. Too much so for me. By 20% in I had no interest in any of the characters and quite frankly this book was going to be a chore so I gave up.
