This book tricked me into reading dense literary/art lectures under the guise of fiction & i will not forgive it!!!

I was entranced by Smith's fiction writing, charmed by her wit, then simultaneously impressed & bored by her vast knowledge. (I thought it was never gonna end sometimes lol)
75% of this was too smart for me & I'll admit it. I just wanted a nice little story & i got a nice little story intermingled with LONG academic-level criticisms? Possibly my fault for walking into Ali Smith territory unprepared. I was very clearly trespassing on her property when she attacked.

Smith’s story is well-crafted, and the essays within it are intriguing, but no matter how nicely they were united in the end, I wanted more of just the story or just the essays. That said, this was a clearly well-thought-out premise and Smith’s style was perfect for its execution
