Savannah is actively an extremely frustrating character to read about, Cortez was one-dimensional and it was obvious he was going to
be Paige's love interest
from the second he was introduced. Paige was somewhat interesting in that she desperately wants to be better but she spends most of the book absolutely refusing to see the awful reality of her situation. Leah the villain is cartoonishly evil and both the Cabal and Coven have very little depth to them.

The ostracisation of Paige is genuinely harrowing to read about, she is treated worse and worse by her community as the book goes on and there is absolutely no pay off for watching this poor woman's life completely fall apart.

BOOKCITEMENT LEVEL 4.3/5

I enjoyed this whole thing. I'm glad to be past most of the introductory stuff for this world/series, because it makes it some much easier to just fall into the story without having the info-dump world building. There was a minimal amount of info-dump in this one.
I really liked following Paige as a character. As much as I like Elena, it was nice getting someone else's story.
I was interested in the story from page one. It went by really quick. A lot of stuff was happening even when it didn't feel like a lot.
Savannah is definitely a teenage girl, and she acted like it throughout this. I was mostly pleased with Paige, but there were some times when she was freaking out and flailing around, and it didn't seem that smart. I also like Lucas. It's also kind of refreshing that he's not some drop dead handsome man, he's described as being kinda forgettable appearance wise.
We got mentions of Adam, Elena, and the other werewolves, but we really didn't see anybody. I kind of missed some of them.
I'm definitely interested to see what's going to happen next. I've got the next book on the way.
Trigger warning for dead animals and death
