While sweet and very clean, the writing in this installment was perhaps even more two-dimensional than the first. I think I missed the target audience:  this is a series about adult wizards written for middle graders. It would have been much more interesting to my 10 yr old self.

So, as an adult reader who enjoys young adult fantasy among other genres, this was a frustrating read. The lead character stumbles into contrived situations and then doesn't have a lot to offer. The world building is milky. The plot development never progresses beyond first-round developmental edits. And it's 90% telling vs showing.

That said, I could recommend it if you've got a young reader interested in fantasy but not ready yet for the depth and breadth of Harry Potter.

This is the next book in the Lily Singer Adventures and follows Lily and Sebastian as they get tangled up in new trouble. We also see the start to a new part of their friendship, and adding some new members to the team. I am really enjoying these books.

A wonderful installment to the series! I honestly read this literally the same day as number one. It gets a bit more serious and the series plot makes some big moves making for lots of oh my god's and what the... And now I must go buy the next few because I love these and I have to read the rest! Sebastian and Lily's relationship is changing, as is the wizarding world, and I am anxious to see how both develop!

The writing, especially at the end, was very sloppy. This book felt rushed, forced, and had much less to recommend it than the first book. I felt like the characters truly could have all gotten more depth in this one, but were just given cardboard cutout tropes to fall back on. I am also still extremely disliking the format of episodes. On to book 3...

Book 2 in the series was even more fantastic than expected! A great step up from book 1 in terms of stakes, Magic, and closer to that promised Love. So many questions answered but big stuff is still coming. I’m gonna have to keep my eyes out for the next books at JordanCon next month. Definitely worth a read.
