I used this for Toddler Storytime today and it remains a favorite with the audience; parents and kids!

So cute! I want to read this at storytime and see if I can turn everyone into a hug machine!

I love the books Scott Campbell works on, so even seeing his characteristic illustrations makes my heart smile ("Zombie in Love," anyone?)

The Hug Machine is a boy who, as the cover depicts, gets serious only when he's giving his hugs. No creature is too big or spiky for his hugs. I love how he does it straight faced, like it's a seriously important matter. And really, it is. Right? Now go eat some pizza so you can refuel your own inner hug machine!

Meh - nothing special. It's cute that Amaya is now a hug machine and hugs her nightlight, but…story was kind of meh.

Our hero is a Hug Machine and he will hug everyone and everything! I thought this book was very cute, especially when there are those who think that they are unworthy of hugs and our hero proves that they deserve hugs too. The illustrations are playful and the main character is just so hug-able himself!

For: readers looking for a sweet book; hug fans.

Possible red flags: some readers may think the book does not respect physical boundaries/does not emphasize that some people do not want to be hugged.

Wow wow wow I loved this book. This actually made me smile big and laugh out loud. I'm not a big hugger (I'm really terrible at it actually, most people note how awkward I am at it) but this book made me want to go out and give hugging another go! Hug Machine hugs everything and loves giving hugs, even though most of the people he hugs are not that into it (lots of stoic looking people letting the hug just happen). And what fuels hug machines? Pizza, of course. I love this book for its simple humor and adorable character.
