3.5??? I am still not sure about the actual rating, I might come back and change it after things settle down. Anyway, I am glad I got to finish the year with this book, yay!
1) I love that cover. Look at how yellow it is, look at those flowers and bones and guns and pretty typos. This is what I live for.
2) I did not know this book was a western when I started it, so that was a pleasant surprise!! Because I am a country pumpkin and I!! Love!! Westerns !! So !! Much!! Give me stories in which they're always poiting guns at each other and hate-kisses are the norm; this is what I need. Basically, I am probably the biggest western enthusiast of 18 years old. Just... throw western recommendations in my face and I will scream.
Okay, moving on to the actual book. The title is pretty self-explanatory: this is a story about revenge, about hate and how it can move one forward towards achieving a goal based on bloodshed and fierceness. This story is nothing new, nothing that I haven't seen before one way or another, but, overall, it proved an enjoyable read.
What I actually, truly loved here were the characters. I don't personally like 1st person narration, so I couldn't really, totally care about Kate, our main character and the one from whose perspective we see everything happening, but the others... Oh god, such a joy! Two pages after a new character got introduced, I was already building a background for them and I feel weirdly stripped of a lot of information regarding... everything about every character, quite honestly. I just needed more, but I'll take whatever this book is willing to give me.
I do think the villains might have needed some more back bone, plus the ending was a little bit hurried compared to everything else, but overall, I found the characters to be the best part of this book, and I might have moments when I will just stare at a wall and whisper the name of someone from this book.
I had some point when I was really frustrated at the turn the book took, but I liked the ending and how things got wraped up a lot, because it makes sense, it shows an evolution of everyone involved into the whole 'vengeance road' business and had the right amount of bittersweetness to keep it real.
I am actually too tired to write anything more about it, but I regret nothing right now.

just not interesting, stuff was happening but, like, I felt like nothing was happening...

not a fan of the over-dramatic western accents... but it was fine.

I have had this book for years, but didn't pick it up until now...and I am kicking myself for that!! Finally got to it and I really, really enjoyed it. Not typically a setting I go for (which is half the reason I put it off), but I am glad I gave it a chance!

I liked this a lot. It took some getting used to the writing style but reading a western was awesome. Definitely want the next one. I hear it’s even better!
