A pretty good book, interesting, suspenseful, and sometimes scary.

I loved this book as a kid. Reading now, it doesn’t quite hold up lol. I was interested in finding out who the stalker was. Lots of high school drama, which is expected for a YA book. The speech, “lingo”, whatever that is used by Amber and PJ irritates me and had me skipping over sentences. It didn’t feel realistic, even for high school. The characters besides Stacey are annoying to me and there isn’t really any character building with them, besides portraying Veronica as queen bitch, PJ as a quirky guy trying too hard, and Amber as an annoying bimbo.
I am also not a Wiccan, so I don’t know how accurate the portrayal of Stacey’s “faith” was, but I’ll admit it was interesting. I found the Scrabble tile as a Quiji board part to be a bit ridiculous, but oh well.
All in all, I was interested enough to get to the end, so that’s something.

Stacey Brown is a junior studying at Hillcrest, a wealthy boarding school. She's also a "witch" who practices natural magic with candles, herbs, and plants. Three years ago, she had nightmares about the little girl she was babysitting; she ignored the warning and the girl was kidnapped and killed.

Now Stacey is having similar nightmares about her best friend and roommate, Drea, and is determined to do everything she can to save her. Drea starts receiving strange phone calls, notes and packages from a mysterious guy. He sends her lilies - the flower of death - and says he will be coming for her soon. Can Stacey stop him?

I read this book in one sitting. It actually was a re-read, as I had already read it a couple of years ago, but now I'm determined to read the entire series. It's a fast-paced thriller with an original twist - the magic Stacey is practicing. She learned it all from her late grandma. Stacey's spells are described in detail, and she sometimes find inspiration from a family book containing spells from her ancestors.

What I didn't like very much in this book is that the friendship between Stacey and Drea doesn't seem very strong. Yes, Stacey risks a lot to go and save Drea, but they don't feel very close as friends. It takes a while before Stacey can confide in Drea about her nightmares; and Drea humilates Stacey by revealing her secret to their other friends at the cafeteria. Plus, Drea and Stacey seem to be after the same guy, Drea's ex boyfriend Chad. He doesn't have any feature that make him special; he's just there.

Something that really bothered me in the author's Touch series is that the main character never goes to the police or to her parents to ask for help, even though someone has been stalking and threatening her. Stacey is smart enough to go to the police, even though they don't actually believe her.

It is also slightly weird to me that only one student at such a prestigious prep school seems to have a cell phone. I realize this series was written in the mid-2000s, but cell phones very quite widespread then.

The solution to the mystery is a tiny bit predictable, but this is still a good book. I have high hopes for the other books in this series.

2.5 stars. It was entertaining, but the characters were all awful and the ending was disappointing. I thought of something better much earlier so it was disappointing to have such a stereotypical end/villain. It was still fun somehow. I think it's the writing style is good even if the plot and characters were lacking. And I liked the Wiccan aspect. It gave it a fun flavor. Still. Not sure I'll keep going with the series but I think I will try another by the author.

The characters in this book were so unbelievable that I felt like the entire thing was written by some kind of alien. The relationships between everyone, to add to this, were so convoluted and unexplained that I found myself wondering who the hell everyone was and why they were friends. The plot line left me confused, the story was rushed and the author writes teenagers like she's never experienced adolescence before.

The blue is for nightmares was a great series. I liked it for so many great things. The author had a great way of making it easy to visualize what spells were being done and how they were being done. Stacey was a great main character to read about even though she had a lot of horrible things happen to her. But most importantly they were will written and I had fun reading them. I wish there was gonna at least be one more.
