Not bad, got a bit samey after a while.

Lupin's a little TOO clever, and the logistics of his arrangements are well beyond credible. The note will arrive at 11, Holmes will be on the noon train, etc. And Lupin has half of Paris working for him, with instant communications that suggests cellphones in 1906.

Sholmes isn't quite as sharp as Conan Doyle's, and the Sholmes-Wilson relationship would be called a bit creepy these days, with a besotted admirer and a hero who gets Wilson injured regularly and doesn't seem to think anything of it. "Only four millimetres from the heart? Hah, as I expected."

I won't look for more of these. Maybe I'll check out Lecoq.

I love Arsène Lupin.
This book consists of a couple of adventures Herlock Sholmes and Arsène Lupin meet, and Maurice Leblanc's patriotism shines through :-D The French are always more civilized, the British are more brutish, colder, unfeeling. Wilson (Leblanc's Watson) is a real British bulldog, and so meanly treated by Sher... er... Herlock. And Arsène dances through the story like the fox he is.
It is slightly old-fashioned, but it was written over a century ago, so I suppose it's allowed to be ;-)

Arsène Lupin impresses the eye, but not the mind. Sherlock Holmes does exactly the opposite, so mr. Leblanc had to go to great extents to dumb down the latter in favour of letting the former shine more brightly. All in all, the story feels very arrogant, and not a tiny bit like the good-natured parody it claims to be.

Growing up I loved Lupin more than I did Sherlock Holmes. Many of his stories were translated from French into Chinese. Sadly there aren't as many in English but I've found quite a few and I'm working my way through them. I'm glad that I still enjoy them. And the parody of Holmes and Watson, here Sholmes and Wilson (nope, the caricature is not that subtle) is pretty fun.

These might be some of the most fun books I've read in a while, and I would 100% recommend them as a more approachable way to get into reading what people consider classic literature. If you have an opportunity to pick them up, I would jump on it, because these are just fantastic and so weirdly good. This was a fantastic continuation to the first book, and the entire series is well worth the investment so far.
