I didn’t like Ari at all so I had a hard time enjoying this one. I also feel like there wasn’t an overarching plot? The illustrations were beautiful though!

As a queer baker living in a tourist town, I felt a deep connection with this book and the protagonist. This coming of age story is a heartwarming take for all ages

Beautiful art and a lovely setting. It was honestly resfreshing to have the main character Ari be such a dick. However, he definitely doesn't deserve Hector, who forgave him way to quickly and easily for someone who is so wary of being used, even though it is probably in part due to the limited page numbers in a graphic novel. I similarly didnt love how Ari's parents, who were basically forcing him to take on the family business because his sister got married, were not treated with the gravity it deserved imo. There were also hints to subplots that were never explored in depth (like the sisters husband and Cameron's whole deal) so while this story had potential it was just too much for the ~300 pages it was given. But I guess it is realistic in the sense that people aren't perfect and sometimes you don't find out the reasons why someone acts a certain way.
