I really love Evan Currie's writing style, the bravado and sarcasm are totally on point. There's action, impossible odds, humor and wit, sacrifice, and a sense of right and wrong. Again, the book was too short, I was wanting more! I really hope that he is writing a third book because I will definitely be pre-ordering it!

Awesome read of space sifi

The book is 2 of 3 books. The arc is developing very nicely. I think there was a good level of action mixed with plot development. There was also lots of great plot twists and thought of how the plot should develop I really appreciate that with this book.

Great addition

Very entertaining addition to the series with a good audio companion. These two factors make it a great road trip book.

The Value of a Star: Ratings Explained

Archangel One (Archangel One, #1)
Archangel Rising (Archangel One, #2)
By: Evan Currie
My Rating: Four out of five stars.
Best for: 14 and up

Finally, a true military-in-space story!

I've read plenty of spaceship books, but I've never read one that I'd consider convincingly militaristic. This story is--military strategy, complexity, military roles, war ship configuration and function, stuff like that. I really enjoyed that element, but even more I enjoyed the fun, engaging, and cleverly crafted story that made the complex space-based military stuff accessible to even me!

It didn't take long to realize this series of books is a spin off of another, larger series called Odyssey One. I'm pretty certain if I'd read that series first, I would have enjoyed the Archangel One books even more.

In THIS story, Humanity has just won a great, but costly victory against an alien force. There's now a period of peace, but The Empire (Hmm...why does than sound so familiar...?) is lurking and it's clear peace will be short lived. If we don't take the fight to them, our little corner of the galaxy is toast. The Empire assimilates everyone who isn't, well...them.

The Empire...assimilates? Hold on...

Whatever. Re-used or not, the ideas works. The story was a blast: wimpy space noobs like Earthlings can't take the battle to the mighty Empire and win! It's impossible! No one can do that! It's never happened!

Bad guys, meet Earth.

I enjoyed the space battles, the clever use of military strategy, and the cool spaceships. The deep-space undercover mission was a ton of fun, too. I didn't love that what I thought was a stand alone turned into a duology...that turned into a trilogy...that is now a series of books with no ending written yet. It's my fault for not doing the research, but still. In retaliation I'm not going to read book 3 until the series is finished AND I've read the original series I didn't know about--so take that!

You might not be as obnoxious about starting a series before it's finished as I am, so if you're in the mood for an excellent ScyFy, space-based, military adventure, look no further!

No sex or violence. A couple of swears. Best for 14 and up.

Happy Reading!

While I very much enjoyed this episode in the tale - lots of action from likeable characters, in the two distinct strands to the plot presented here - it still felt incomplete, like a book split in two. Oh well, more next time!

This book mostly focuses on Commander Stephan “Stephanos” Michaels, his new Archangel group and new group of privateers. Stephanos has grown since we first met him in [b:Odyssey One|18889230|Odyssey One (Odyssey One, #1)|Evan Currie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1385156961l/18889230._SX50_.jpg|16237035]. He emulates Eric Weston while also being his rogue self as he leads the Privateers as Captain Teach. This continues to be a fun, action-packed series.

For Transparency: I won the book in a giveaway, but I was not paid for this review.

Once again, I had really not intended to read this book straight through. But, you know, the sane bedtime be damned.

Obviously, I enjoyed this book. However, now I'm frustrated, waiting for the next installment. Maybe, if I'm lucky, lots of you will buy the book, and Evan will get enthused and write several more in this series this year.

Just a fun read.  I do enjoy seeing how Captain Teach and Eric make the best of their situation.

More good stuff from this popular author. Best to read #1 in the series first. This continues with interesting characters and an engaging plot. How one party outsmarts the other is pretty well executed, and includes the usual humor and surprises that help this author succeed so often. Recommended for opera fans.

I really appreciate the ARC for review!!
