I'm So Glad You Were Born: Celebrating Who You Are by Ainsley Earhardt

An uplifting and encouraging book, based on a message from a parent or guardian to a young child. With soft rhyming words that are lyrical and sweet, this book speaks light and life into children's hearts.

Beginning with a celebration and stating a range of attributes that children can delight in with phrases like “you spread rays of sunshine wherever you go” and “you are crafty, creative and smart like a fox”, this book reminds children of the joy they bring to the readers life and tells them God has a purpose and plan for them, then encourages them to dream big. There is a deep underlying message of belief in the child and the Creator's divine design, joy for their personality and passions, encouragement for their future, and love and acceptance for who they are.

I wish this book encouraged children to follow God versus following their own heart. There is a reference that states “God's purpose for you is to follow your heart.” In my opinion, this phrase can be misleading as the Bible warns Christians that our human nature and desires can lead us astray (Prov. 3:5-7, Prov. 19:21, Jer. 17:9). The sentiment is there in this book, but the message is not on par with Biblical truth.

The illustrations are adorable, imaginative and colorful. They offer a depiction of both children and adults, with a diverse range of skin colors and even a child in a wheelchair. Both my 4 YO daughter and I enjoyed the illustrations immensely.

This book would be great for a child in foster care, to celebrate an adoption, salvation or baptism, or even a birthday! It would make a wonderful gift from a parent, loved one or teacher.

*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

This book is beautiful!

It does mention God so if you aren’t religious or don’t believe in God, I wouldn’t recommend this. If you are religious or do believe in God, this is a beautiful book for children without the overt and sometimes pushy nature of some religious or spiritual books for children.

I love how it focuses on celebrating the child and building them up.

I love this book so much! I have teenagers now, but I bought this anyway because I'm constantly telling them how much they mean to me. I can't wait to read it to my future grandchildren.

Multicultural embracing of each child's uniqueness. It is what you would expect, but doesn't make it any less sweet.
