I genuinely was enjoying this book for roughly the first half of it. I was not expecting nearly all of the "falling in love" to take place in multiple events happening in one night, however it wasn't a deal breaker for me . . .
However what did kill all of my enjoyment of this book was the animal abuse (I'm assuming it is as explicit as a YA book will allow), I did skip over chapter eight due to this. After chapter eight I was completely ambivalent towards the book. I did take a minute interest at the end of the book at the last chapter/epilogue. But chapter eight completely ruined it for me. It is highly annoying that I only saw one other review with a mention of this as I feel for some (myself included) may not have been inclined to read this book knowing this ahead of time.
Also the last minute LGBTQ+ rep at the end . . . I'm still unsure how I feel about that. I'm all for queer side characters, but this was literally thrown in at the very end of the book. I feel like I wouldn't feel so iffy about it if both of the side characters were more established. Yes it is her sister and best friend, but both of them were minimally in the book so it did feel more of a throw away shot at representation. However, I could just be biased given my displeasure with the book.

I needed something this cute to fix my awful day. My stress has been relieved by the innocent flirtation of these two <3 Honestly I was surprised this took place in one night, I need to stop picking books by their covers and start actually reading the summaries. I do think it was filled with tropes but that can be great in some cases. I love my independant regency women and their initially brash men that follow them around like puppy dogs.
