4.5! I enjoyed this a lot - Under the Whispering Door struck the right balance of both hilarious and emotionally devastating moments. The story was reminiscent of Studio Ghibli film vibes with a very lovable cast.

Hugo and Wallace's relationship was adorable, and I enjoyed the character progression of Wallace from downright Ebenezer Scrooge initially to ultimately becoming a better person he could be proud of towards the tail-end of the book. At the heart of it, this book is about being kind to yourself and to those around you.
