Whyborne and Griffin investigate murder and creepy asylums, where Griffin struggles due to his past. Whyborne is really growing into his strength and confidence and it's great to see. Griffin breaks my heart here, he goes through a LOT.

Their relationship is still my most favourite thing ever, Whyborne is so supportive in his loving, gawky way, and he fights tooth and nail to protect Griffin. But he faces his own issues, and Griffin is also solidly there for him. There are still plenty of sweet, intimate moments amidst the struggle and I really enjoyed them. As for the mystery, I gotta say though it's engrossing, it's also *really* creepy, and some parts are difficult to read.

Not my favorite from the series so far, but hopefully we can at least put the relationship insecurities behind us now. I found the device of moving the plot forward through dreams annoying and it felt like they hardly solved this mystery.

This is easily my favorite and also the hardest of these books to read. Trigger Warnings: Homophobia, Forced Institutionalization, Sexual Assault, Violence, Mental Illness - if any of these are major triggers for you then seek out specific spoilers to make sure you will be comfortable with the book's contents.

WOW, shit really hits the fan in this book. I don't know if it is because I am queer, but even the 'normal' storyline regarding Griffin's family was very relatable and a big deal. Combining the tension of that situation with the weight and horror of The Dweller made the weight of this book seem so much bigger than the others. I spent a good deal of time on the edge of my seat sincerely horrified by the consequences if everything ended poorly for the characters.

This is the first time I have wished for a peak at Griffin's POV. Whyborne's POV is really great, but both protagonists are keeping cards close to their chests - so having an additional pov would just make it even better. I am also a little horrified at how often people get jumped with no police/anyone noticing, but then I remember Widdershins is the Nightvale of victorian cosmic horror and calm down.

I feel like each book in the series delves into a new type of lovecraftian - this is psychological horror.

I love Whyborne and Griffin so much at this point.  I think I could read about them watching paint dry and still be entertained.
