True to its title, this book was bizarre.

But I ended up really liking it, and laughed out loud quite a bit.

Wonderful writing and a story full of the weirdest characters, swirling timelines and settings and great humour. One of my very favourite authors. Kate Atkinson is consistently brilliant!!

Kate Atkinson is a master when it comes to forming sentences and weaving narratives. I'm not sure I understood this one but I very much enjoyed reading it.

I tried hard with this because I’ve loved ofher Kate Atkinson books, and because it’s set in Dundee! But it wasn’t funny enough, the characters weren’t interesting enough, and the prose wasn’t arresting enough to keep me interested through the ponderous meta-plotting. I’m a literary reader, but this one wasn’t for me.

I have never laughed out loud so much with a book as I did with this one. It’s hilarious! I loved it all.

I was surprised to see that this was my first book by Kate Atkinson, it's an author I've seen and heard much about but apparently never read before. Sadly this one wasn't a winner that made me over excited to read more by her but I'll give her a few more tries before giving up completely. This had some good moments and it was mildly entertaining although not a book I'll remember for long or take much out of

However impressed I am with Life After Life, this remains my favourite Atkinson book. Although Effie, the narrator, cheerfully upsets the conventions of storytelling while using them, and she is often funny at the expense of the absurd life she and her fellow students live in 1970s Scotland, this never loses her the reader’s sympathy, and for all its apparent aimlessness the story eventually does arrive at a fitting conclusion.

Quite weird and purposely hard to follow. Well written as usual, but I struggled a little at times. The story is at times hilarious and others just confiding. Breaks every wall possible, especially the fifth.
