Very sweet, helped me process the passing of a loved one, too. The recipes look delicious! (If eggs are a hard no for you, maaaaybe skip this book 😂)

I made the mistake of picking this up at midnight, thinking to read a few pages to wind down before bed. It is now 3:15 am and I don't have any regrets! I might in the morning... But maybe I can make myself my favorite kind of eggs (fried over hard on buttered toast, with extra salt and pepper) and everything will feel all right with the world.

Mrs. Martinez was my favorite character. She reminded me of my Nana, and how proud she was when I learned how to make scrambled eggs  for everyone as a kid—I think I might've been around Eli's age, actually—even though I didn't know where anything was in her kitchen. I can still taste the kind of tea she served with it. Oh man. Here come the waterworks. But in a good, happy-sad kind of way. 😭

This book was really comforting, and feels like a true look at the way different people respond to grief in different ways, and how sometimes that makes everything so hard, and sometimes it brings us closer together.

Cute story, and good way to talk about death and covid. I thought the recipes throughout were a great addition. Not sure why there had to be a love interest at all. That fell flat.

This book was really cute and really sweet. This book definitely deals with some heavy subjects but it's done so gently and with so much love that this book just feels like a warm hug on a gloomy day. My only "complaint" is Sta2mper didn't make enough egg puns!

This was a moving and heartfelt middle grade book about dealing with grief over the sudden loss of a parent, finding passion with food and all set during the tumultuous time of COVID in NYC.

While this wasn't my favorite by Phil Stamper, I still think a lot of young readers will relate to the MC and find solace in his struggles to deal with his mother's death and his father's all-encompassing grief.

Great on audio narrated by André Santana and definitely worth picking up!

“Healing is…definitely not a straight line.”
