i am a huge fan of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series.  This book wasn't the bes in the series.  It had a rather ridiculous, totally unbelievable plot.

I personally didn't like it. The writing is good but I felt some of it was predictable for me with some scenes and dialog unnecessary. That being said, it's a great thriller, political spy novel. It's the first Vince Flynn I've read. My grandpa loves the series and gave this to me as gift. It's just not my thing.

3.5 stars. Another good book. Not my favorite of the Mitch Rapp series but I love that this one brought back
SpoilerGould, AKA his wife's murderer
. I thought that was pretty neat. Although, having read this around the time I was getting some surgeries, the way Rapp recovers from his hospital injuries makes me wish I was resilient like him.

It makes me sad that this was Vince Flynn's official last book he wrote before losing the battle to cancer. Vince Flynn is my favorite. My hero. Wished I could have met him. I wonder if he patterned Stan Hurley after himself by
Spoilergiving him cancer in this story.
and while I'm typing out spoilers, I still don't understand how Rickman could just subject himself to torture. Wasn't very believable. If he was already in cahoots with the enemy he could have saved himself pain and just secretly divulged the secrets. And how many secrets did he tell them? What happened to the lady who wanted to take down Rapp at the beginning of the book. As always, there were too many characters but I didn't feel like closure was given on many of them. I hope the next author does well with the series.

Even after reading a dozen books of this series I still have questions such as:

-Who is the real enemy?
-How are there still agencies in Washington that don't know who Rapp is and worse, continue to try to undermine and control him when he does so much good for the country?
-Why did America give the Afghan people equipment and guns?

But when I take a step back from the book I realize that these are questions I can ask in real life, too.

I was just over halfway through this book (265 pages) when I came to the conclusion that there had only been one fight/battle scene. In other words, this story was quite boring. It had been a few years since I read a Vince Flynn novel and I thought this one was going to be as thrilling and full of action as any other Rapp series. But, "The Last Man" was anything but. A lot of backroom conspiring and dialog but no action. I was severely disappointed. I have read all but just a couple of the Rapp series and it seems to me that Flynn made be losing his touch. If you are used to the high action, covert ops type of stories from Flynn, I wouldn't bother with this one.

Fabulous. Love this series. I hope the author who took over can continue with the fast paced, page turner books I love.

I liked the story and plot but Flynn's writing just isn't great. I kept getting distracted wanting to "edit" the writing. Might give the series one more try since most loyal fans seem to be disappointed in this one as well, but I'm not sure yet.
