Wow. My first thought after finishing Follow Me to Ground was, what on earth was Sue Rainford going through when she wrote this? My second thought was, holy crap this got dark fast.

If you enjoy dark realism thrillers this is a must read!

The vibes in this – impeccable. I do not know what I was expecting, maybe a more sci-fi/fantastical/romantic read. I'm SO glad I read this on audio, bc the second I heard southern accents, the southern gothic vibes clicked right into place. I'm not sure exactly how any of it would've clicked without that.

I love, love the structure of this. First off, I thought it was dual perspective with Ada and Samson, but being all through Ada's ("unnatural") perspective broken up by accounts of her own "myth" from townspeople was perfect for the atmosphere. I reread it almost immediately just to take in the vibes.

A truly interesting premise, and a grim narration. I enjoyed it, but maybe I had too high expectations. That said, perfect autumn read.
