English journalist Manzoor recounts his life growing up in England as a Muslim immigrant, brought from Pakistan by his father when he was two-years-old in 1974. In eight chapters he reflects on family relationships, friendships, race relations, cultural tensions, work, faith, the United States, the United Kingdom, and his fascination with Bruce Springsteen and his music.

A dramatic presentation of these themes has recently been released as the movie “Blinded by the Light,” for which Manzoor was one of the scriptwriters. This 2007 book, arranged by topics, is the thoughtfully reflective nonfiction inspiration for the film.
