I wish I had this book in 2014. I wish I had had a Lou in real life. Those lonely years would have been a bit easier, I think. Walden's ability to express the untethered feelings that Bea and Lou are experiencing together and separately is truly incredible, and then the way Bea and Lou come back to little piece of themselves when they realize how much each of them and their experience driving through West Texas means to the other is so beautiful. The art is of course beautiful and haunting and hopeful and wonderful and devastating and magical and I love this book so much and I could gush for days about it all.

I love how Tillie Walden writes stories, they always feel so homey. The characters are so real it’s almost like they’re sitting right next you as you’re reading. The seamless integration of different themes and stories with the unique magic that Walden creates is irreplaceable. The use of colors and page space add so much depth and feeling to the novel as well. In conclusion, Tillie Walden is an amazing story teller and artist and I can’t wait to see what they release next.

4.5 y me cuestiono si darle 5 estrellas

i can’t walk through the woods or drive in a new place without thinking of these illustrations now. i am utterly convinced that our landscapes shapeshift around us as we move through them now, and that the world is made for us (and by us?) as we change & grow & learn. this plot is kinda weird and unsettling? but i think that’s the point. highly rec reading all of tillie walden’s books immediately after quitting your job and your entire life and driving around new england for a month crying about a girl and swimming in ice cold water alone in the forest lol. perfect accompaniment for these books

Two women embark on a (magical?) road trip that forms a friendship and ultimately helps them overcome their trauma and grief.
Magical-realism isn't my thing, and I wasn't invested enough in the characters to make up for the genre.

An incredible journey, full of found family and unbeatable ambience.
This book is like if Welcome to Night Vale had a queer younger sister.
