In the debut book in the Dead Sister Talking Mysteries, Elaina "Lainey" Garcia has come home to Vineyard, Texas, following the death of her sister, Tessa. What at first looks like an accident proves to be murder. When Tessa's ghost appears only to Lainey begging Lainey to solve her murder, Lainey decides to hang around Vineyard and search for clues.

What an absolutely fun and fantastic debut! With a dash of Murder She Wrote and a large helping of the humor that I've grown to love with the Stephanie Plum novels, Heard It Through the Grapevine absolutely blew my socks off. I was expecting a fun cozy mystery set in a town known for its wine. What I wasn't excepting was to simply fall in love with these sisters, who are strong and funny women, who put everything aside to try and solve the mystery surrounding their sister's death.

Lainey and Tessa haven't spoken to each other for years, so Lainey is bewildered why Tessa's ghost would appear to only her. It was Lainey's and Tessa's relationship that I loved the most - watching the sisters resolve some of their differences, with hints at what could come later in the series.

Heard It Through the Grapevine is a heartwarming cozy mystery that kept me on my toes trying to guess who disliked Tessa enough to kill her. I loved every single page of it, and I can't wait for the next Dead Sister Talking Mystery.

This was an interesting premise, but there was a lot of what felt like unnecessary cursing to "make a point" and then a lot of misogyny in the ending and I just wasn't all that excited about it.
