Oh you’re a bleak, dystopian novel? You’re already a 4+ ⭐️ for me.
“He hadn’t cared for hugging, so he hadn’t hugged them. He hadn’t cared about hearing ‘I love you,’ so he didn’t bother to say it. But if he ever saw them again, he’d thank them for the music and the pancakes, for loving him enough to leave him alone, and he’d hug them.”

In the end, it was okay. There were things I really liked about it, and others I didn't, like June's long, rambling (and, frankly, boring) story of Violet. I'm ambivalent about the ending.
One thing I will say: this author is onto something, using ticks as the premise for her post-apocalyptic. Ticks really, really freak me out, and I can buy a future like she depicts here.

While I enjoyed this book, I feel I've got say...This book is NOT comparable to the amazing-ness that is 'Station Eleven'. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.
This story has a lot of characters (many of whom are incredibly unlikable) and there's a lot going on. I did feel that the story lost it's way a bit, around the 50%-60% mark, but the ending what somewhat satisfactory.
I would definitely have liked a more fleshed out epilogue. We only find out what became of one character...the rest are a complete mystery (did they live, did they die?!), and that irritated me, but for the most part, I enjoyed the book. I would recommend it for fans of light dystopian.

3.5 stars. Well written, but a slow start and fell a bit flat for me at the end.

I couldn't put this one down. I love a good dystopian and the Salt Line delivers for me. Scary but believable premise? Check. Flushed out characters? Check. Good writing style? Check. Unexpected plot turns? Check. Can't wait to discuss this one at book club!

I wish there had been more about the killer ticks and less about the partial development of characters that I didn't end up caring all that much about.
