These 3 stories are about girls who attended the same boarding school and at first I was hoping for a closer connection between them. But then I realized that they couldn't be any more connected because they had such traumatic childhoods and how many closely connected children would suffer so badly? I think my favorite story turned out to be the last one in the book which was written by Lisa Childs. All 3 stories had several twists and turns and kept me guessing until the very end. Definitely a book I will recommend to others!!

Thanks to goodreads.com for the opportunity to read this book!!

Now this is different: a trio of never-before-released novellas, all linked by St. Cecilia's School for Girls. Dark secrets, revenge, the rich and famous. Sounds just life a movie promo? That’s probably as much excitement I gleaned from ‘Afraid”. There are three novellas, all focused on a different character: Lucy, Rayne and Erin. Lucy is trying to escape the man who murdered her mother. But what really happened on that fateful night, and why is her killer adamant that he is coming for her? This was a twisted tale, and the build up around Lucy, her sister, and her mother was very exciting. Then we move to Rayne who is struggling after her roommate, Natalie, committed suicide … but did she? Maybe there is something else at pay here, another murderous connection, perhaps? I am still not quite certain. Lasty we meet Erin who was kidnapped with her sister, Anna Beth. Her sister disappeared while Erin was found, with not a lot of memories. However, her memories start to return as she returns to the family estate.

These stories were not in chronological order, there was no overlap and they could easily be read separately, with the connection being St Cecilia’s. I didn’t find a lot of connection with the second and third novellas. And it seemed the connection and resolution in the third story were far-fetched, almost trying too hard to resolve all the loose strings. The whole idea of three authors coming together and writing three different stories with a connections is brilliant though, and I’d love to read more of these.

Lisa Jackson story gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️ just because I KNOW she could of made such a great story. Would of loved to have 30 chapters.

Alexandra Ivy ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Fun great little story. Never read a story by her but this gives me an idea of what to expect.

Lisa Childs ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ GREAT story in my opinion. I loved it from the beginning to the end. Being a new reader of hers I was so pleasantly surprised. Definitely will look into her work in the future!

Afraid; Lisa Jackson, Alexandra Ivy, Lisa Childs (416 pages)
Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Psychological Suspense
Rating: 4 stars

This book is a compilation of three short stories by authors; Lisa Jackson, Alexandra Ivy and Lisa Childs. Each story centers around one of three former students of St. Cecilia’s School for Girls in Salzburg, Austria.

While there is a thread which weaves each of these stories together, they also can be read as standalone. Each of the main characters survived or went through a traumatic event which has had long standing impacts on their lives. While I felt there could have been more developed in the first and third story to tie them together more, overall, I felt that the stories complimented each other well and I found it hard to choose a favorite. I’d initially been drawn to read this one as I’ve heard of best-selling author Lisa Jackson but hadn’t read any of her books. The other two authors were unknown to me. After reading this, I can say I’d definitely read any other works by any of these authors. The stories were well crafted, complex and layered mysteries which kept me guessing down to the last minute. Each of the stories had its own twists and turns and pulled off a reveal at the end which I didn’t see coming.

The short story format meant I could easily get through a story in one sitting. I enjoyed each of these stories and would definitely read more by each author in the future. Overall, this book is a suspenseful, fast paced and easy to read book which I’d highly recommend.

I can't be the only one who thought all the male MCs were creepy af, and not in a dark, mysterious way, more like an "I wouldn't trust you alone with my teenage daughter" way. Oh yeah, the writing is also lame and predictable.
