I did not grow up reading these. I grew up with the Disney cartoons, which I think I liked fairly well. Pretty sure I related to Tigger.

However, I'm a big Stephen Fry fan and when I found a dramatized audiobook with him and Judi Dench and other new-to-me but stellar actors I picked it up and I am almost infatuated with Pooh-bear. It was on steady rotation with my kids and I didn't even mind! ("You want Pooh Bear again? OKAY!" as most parents will agree, this never happens.)

Since then I got the collection of stories--and it's just splendid--but really, get the audiobook with Stephen Fry. He hums and sings Pooh's little ditties, usually with harpsichord accompaniment. If that doesn't persuade you, nothing will (and you're hopeless, by the way).

This is my third time reading it aloud all the way through with my daughter (age 4, age 6, and age 8 1/2). Each time brings new joys and laughter. We love referring to the map at the beginning, and we take turns doing the voices. A treasure for all ages.

No but those last three or so chapters did not need to be so heart wrenching 😭.

This is a classic--I appreciate the innocent but clever sensibility much more now than I would have as a child.
