Reading Clive Cussler books while at the beach are almost like a tradition for me. They are easy and fun to read. This story moved along pretty well with only a couple of times where it seemed to start to drag.

Issac Bell is faced with a formidable foe in The Gangster. When the Van Dorn detective agency is hired to investigate a kidnapping/extortion ring in little Italy, they quickly discover something larger is at work. As the story progresses, a plot against the President, Teddy Roosevelt, is uncovered. Will Bell and the Van Dorn's be in time to foil the scheme?
This is a wonderful series that has enjoyable characters and well written plots. It is also fun to be taken to the early 1900s and be reminded of how that time was different from modern day 2016. While it is fiction, so there's sure to be some fabrication, the story still captures the essence of the time. The interactions with Teddy Roosevelt seem spot on with the historical persona.
A highly recommended mystery/adventure.

Got into these books because a loved one adored the Dirk Pitt series and we are listening to the Sam and Remi Fargo series which I enjoy. Okay, so it was also the description I read that of Isaac Bell being “the Sherlock Holmes of 1900s”. Sherlock? I’m in! Of this series, this was one of my favorites. The characters are realistic. Cussler’s writing is already well established and his co-author practiced in the style. Each character was rich which is why I enjoyed this book so much. I felt like I was right there as Isaac and his fellow Van Dorn Agents broke into the Black hand Squad’s hangout and made their demands. I was a little nervous for them. This was not unlike getting entranced in an action movie. Total enjoyment.

I really enjoy all the Isaac Bell books and this was no exception. This book pitted Bell against a very smart and tricky adversary. You know Bell will win, but it is always interesting when the bad guys make him work at it.
