I want to start this out by saying if you haven’t read Head Over Heels by this author, go read it! One of my fav reads of 2020.
Edie has an interesting prophecy, known within her family. Her Grandmother Gloria has accurately predicted the dates of when everyone in their family will meet their perfect match. Edie has been anxiously waiting for her date, even ending a very serious relationship as she believes in Gloria’s magic that much. On her day, Edie meets a musician on a plane and even though she begins to fight for that relationship, she realizes that this may not be the type of person she imagined for herself.
I was really disappointed by this. Although it was easy to read, it was boring and took me forever to get through. I would leave it for days and not be enticed to read on, I did a decent amount of skimming because I feel like so many details were added that didn’t need to be there. I didn’t care at all about any of the side characters so I felt no connection to them or what they were doing. The relationship between Edie and the main male character, her match, who’s name I can’t remember even though I finished this book a couple days ago (bad sign), was so bland. They obviously didn’t have a connection and I know this was a key part of the story but it dragged on and on. I thought Edie seemed kind of silly for being so bent on the prophecy, it was almost cringey, especially when she kept harping on her past relationship. Now, I did like the ending, but I wish the ending was more of the story because that’s what I was really interested in reading. I liked what happened there more than anything else in the story, but the ending was extremely convenient and predictable. I knew the whole book it would end up that way, I just didn’t know how. This was sadly a let down…

Okay I am so sorry but I HATED Edie. Absolutely hated. Pretty much everyone else I absolutely loved but I just could not get behind Edie. Which sucks considering, ya know, she’s the MC.
It also felt so weird (to me, at least) to call this a romance novel when the main romance is not actually a romance at all, but basically just Edie trying to force something that’s clearly not working? And then I felt totally cheated because I barely got to see ANY of the *~real~* romance, but rather it was shoved in to the last few pages and we were given like a super quick montage-style thing. So unsatisfying.
Anyway Rae/Max novel WHEN?
