I'm going to need everyone to ignore how long I took to read this because...back to school. Nonetheless, I really liked Rose in Chains! The magic system/politics was interesting to see play out and it was darker than the fantasy books I normally read. Still good. Can't wait for book two to see what happens next!

Only Julie Soto can make me like a comporary romantasy (aka not paranormal from 2010). Obviously, you can kind of feel the skeleton of the fanfic behind, but it didn't annoy me. I appreciate how the relationship unfolds at a slow pace, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of the implications of this world. Ends on a bang, can't wait for the next book.

This book was fine but overall so underwhelming. It was too long to feel this anticlimatic, like alot happened but also didnt feel like we actually built up to anything. I didnt like the back and forth format with flashbacks, it didnt give us more information, not really, so it just felt like it took us out of the story over and over so there wasnt much flow. I honestly only finished listening to the audiobook on spotify bur was tempted to dnf.
