That epilogue though! I really enjoyed my time with this book. Despite its dark themes, it never felt bleak. (Check your trigger warnings if you need to.) I’m not usually a dual-timeline girly, but I am an enemies-to-lovers girly, and this slow burn definitely leaves you wanting more, in the best way.

My only complaint is that I wanted a bit more depth in the world-building and magic system, and I felt like Briony should have been questioning what was going on more than she did. Honestly, I’m not sure I would’ve been as into it without my previous Dramione reads.

That said, I hate unfinished series but I’m already seated for book two.

And just to be clear: it’s still f*ck JKR. Don’t get it twisted.

This book is heavy with dark themes, specially revolving around trafficking a specific type of magician and selling them at auctions. Please be mindful of triggers before reading this if you are sensitive to darker elements!

Okay, now that that is out of the way.
I’m actually really upset that I read this book now, before book two is released. This is a book series that I will binge again when book two comes out, and again when book three comes out. The magic system is wonderful and I really enjoyed being able to look in the past at the dynamics of Briony and Toven leading up to the start of book one. There is so much that happened before the book even started that once the series is complete, I would love if the author did a deep dive into the past and showed more of the schooling of all the students.
