This one was a little slow for me, but did catch me off guard at the end.

I've been fairly excited for this ever since I discovered McManus's debut novel, One of Us is Lying last year. The way she juggled back and forth between the four different perspectives with that book was damn near masterful and it blew me away.

The thing that made that book so good was, unfortunately, absent. I really loved the mystery in One of Us is Lying because you would flip between each character, trusting one person damn near implicitly in one chapter and then being 99.9% sure they were the killer in the next chapter.

This was missing that constant guessing. I never really had any theories of my own and I didn't really connect with either of our POV characters. I experienced a wide disconnect with everything that was happening and that was really disappointing after feeling like I was right in the thick of it in the other book.

That said, I did still enjoy myself, I liked the characters, and I did find the mystery mostly engaging, just not as much as I wanted to find it. Not a bad read by any means though, because McManus is incredibly talented.

I devoured this book in just a few sittings. This was a great mystery filled with likeable characters. It included an angsty teen romance which let’s be honest is always fun to read about. This book kept me on my toes and included twists and turns I didn’t see coming.

This book was so interesting to read, and the ending plot twist was something that I never expected, much like with ‘One of Us Is Lying’. It kept me guessing until the very end, and the whole story was really fun. The book ended in such a way that I was completely satisfied yet still wanting more, which is something that I have found only in the best books I have read, for example ‘Harry Potter’.
