Great sequel that can stand alone if you missed Ghostman. Reminiscent of Lee Child, except that this Jack is all about technology as he goes about stealing, cheating and killing. I was totally caught up in the hustle, the frantic pace and the grimy city of Macau. Just the thing after the more challenging nonfiction I've been reading lately. Hobbs suggests that you listen to Nina Simone' "Sinnerman" as you start reading, and I agree: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vDZsABHUbQ

Very fast pace, exciting, a rollercoaster that I enjoyed every second of. Only thing I didn't like was it was a bit gory at some points and I'm sensitive to that. But the descriptions are fantastic and 100% is a book and an author that I love.

This book was likeable, easy to read and follow I got into it right away. It has a fairly simple plot line. It only has 2 main characters, basically 2 professional thieves who make their living pulling off heists. The two are Angela and Jack, a lady mastermind and her disciple who is 10 years her junior. Despite a longish bio, they aren't really further developed in the book. And they don't have a sexual relationship despite all the conditions being right for it.

The problem with the book is that there isn't enough meat in it. The main plot was just too simple. It's an ocean heist (mostly plausible) of sapphires that picked up an extra cargo and what happened when the protagonists tried to get rid of it. I kept waiting for the story to develop more and about halfway through the book I realized that the story was just going to end about there. Everything else seemed halfway done. I thought the readers would find out more about the two characters and the consequences of their actions but nope, the story had a real quick ending.

This is apparently a second book and perhaps if I had read the first book, I would have been more satisfied but right now I feel like I went for a full course dinner and the meal stopped at the entree. I liked the book and don't really like it enough to explore this author's other books. This book was OK.

I got this book as a free review copy.

Dang, that was good! Nonstop action, appealing hero and heroine who are both tough as nails, fascinating details on how to decapitate someone or perform self-surgery on an eye, inside information on heists, all set in the fascinating city of Macau. Throughout the book I kept thinking "Geez, that was interesting. I had no idea!" If you haven't read GHOSTMAN, by all means get it ASAP so you can read this when it's released this summer.

My first Roger Hobbs book. Fast-paced. Gem smuggling our of Myanmar. counterfeit money, professional big-scale thieves. It was interesting to learn new terms and see hi tech gear in use. Hard to relate to 2 talented crooks who live for adrenalin rush and playing deadly games.
