Light, fun, a bit predictable, but still enjoyable. This is a cozy mystery set in a small town in the South. Summer is smart, kind, and misunderstood. You just can't help rooting for her to show the people the real her and that she's not just some stuck up star. She stumbles into clues left and right and is actually pretty good at her job as a private investigator.

Wow, I really enjoyed this book despite it's got all the problems of female sleuth mysteries. I guess it's because of the fast pace and the cast of likable characters.

The good: It's easy to follow Summer Butler because she is a kindhearted girl who, like the majority of us, sometimes lack the courage to say NO. It's unfortunately she's got a selfish, sociopathic mother but the rest of her family more than makes up for it. Then, there is of course the sexy and loyal Luke, who's complaining but never stops loving Summer (awesome), just the type of romance I like.

Sadly, the story is predictable and I think Swank tries too hard to leave clues for the readers so that pretty soon, we all see how the book is going to end. The only suspense in this book
Spoiler is really whether Terry is clean or a criminal and I'm glad in the end he's the former
. The next book seems to focus on Dixie! I smell something's going on with her past and I'm looking forward to reading the next book and learning more about what happened back then (as well as where Cupid will lead Luke and Summer to).

I do love a good Denise Grover Swank investigative novel. This follows the story of a young female actress. She was a successful teenage actress who takes on a new role as a PI.
I did enjoy this however it was too predictable for me which made it a bit of a slog and seemed to take me a long time to finish. That being said I’ll give book 2 a go at some point.

The beginning was slow...like wading through treacle. A fun read after the pace picked up.

A fun, escapism read. Loved the mystery (murder after murder,) the romantic tension was fun, and the audio was fabulous. Looking forward to the next one.

Love Rose Gardner? Read this next.

I have loved every DGS book I have read so far. She has not disappointed with Summer Butler. I discovered the Rose Gardner series through a friend and loved the way this author tells a story. After finishing what was put so far with Rose I decided to look into what other stories Denise had to share and I am so happy I did. Summer Butler has both positive character traits and flaws I believe most people can relate to. Sure, I'm not a child actor but j know what it's like to need to go back to your roots after knowing a different world. The real mystery that comes into play when Summer goes back to her hometown is intriguing and feels you right in to the plot. Denise has a way of making the reader feel all of the emotions her characters feel and it's truly special. You won't regret reading this story! Hope this helps in making your decision to read this book :)

Just finished this during my spring break! It was a good read. At first I wasn’t sure about Summers character, but as the book progressed I enjoyed her interaction with her family and the town of Sweet Briar. I’m looking forward to Summer’s next mystery!
