House Parties is the first short story collection by poet Lynn Levin. There’s lots of variety in plots and characters, many of them quirky and strange, but they’re much like people you probably know in real life. Any one of them could be your neighbor. And like the people you know, some learn and grow, but some don’t, even as they long for change — in their partners, their social status, their pedestrian lives. Some characters behave badly (especially men toward women). Some tolerate their lives, and some rebel. They are seekers, but connection and meaning often elude them.
