Anne Moody's voice is strong and vivid throughout the autobiography. She describes each event with such ease and force that you feel like you're right along side of her picking pecans, plucking chickens, or being beaten in a cafe.
My only complaint is that I felt like the ending was weak in comparison to the rest of the book. She ends with questions, which feels like a set-up for another book. I would have loved to have read "to be continued..." on the final page and would have gone out and picked up the second installment of her life. Unfortunately that is not how it ends. Even though we've all learned about the Civil Rights Movement throughout our lives, reading an autobiography of a woman who struggled through it brings new light to everything. I wanted to know how things "ended" for her.
