The Amaranthine Chronicles – made up of Betrayed By Blood, Dark Revenge, and The Final Battle – was a fun quick read, although it wasn’t quite all that I had expected. It works best if you read them all in one sitting, as they very much feel like one story split into parts rather than three separate stories. Due to this, my review of the whole series is more detailed than my review of each individual part.

Dark Revenge, the second story in this short collection, was as enjoyable – if not a bit more enjoyable – as the first book. It builds upon the many aspects shown to us in the first book, introducing a number of new twists to the story. Some of the questions we had in the first book are answered, and as a whole we move towards some kind of resolution.

However, knowledge of the world wasn’t added to the degree that I had hoped it would be. My main issue with the first book was a lack of understanding of the magical world we were in, and I’d been hoping for some more information in this book. Whilst the world is expanded upon in this book, my understanding failed to improve much beyond what it already was. Due to this, I still wasn’t pulled in quite as much as I had hoped to be.

Overall, it was another enjoyable story. Whilst I wasn’t pulled in quite as much as I had hoped to be, I did enjoy where the story was heading. It was close to being a four star read, but as I’m a big lover of understanding magical worlds I couldn’t quite bring myself to give it a four star rating.
