This was not my favorite book of hers. The story jumped around too much and by the end wasn't believable.

It was fine. That's all it was. I enjoyed the prose, and some of the world building. Perhaps if I read it a few years earlier, I would have enjoyed it much more. Some books are about a right time/and place, rather than the content itself. And given that this was the authors first book, written over 30 years ago, it's understandable.

Couldn't finish it. Wasn't a story I could get into. No character to really get behind. I greatly enjoy another series this author writes, so was slightly let down.

This book feels like it has two halves: the first is your typical fantasy wartime plot (I love the social/magic hierarchy the author created) and the second feels like a re-telling of [b:Beauty and the Beast|41424|Beauty A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast|Robin McKinley|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1169613617s/41424.jpg|2321285]. The abrupt switch to a fantasy romance is a bit jarring, but enjoyable, nonetheless. I'm not entirely convinced on what Erin finds so compelling in Stephanos, but am invested enough in them to read the rest of the series.

A straightforward story of the fight between light and dark, exemplified by the long and fraught relationship between a woman of the Light and the First of the Dark.
This series was a childhood favorite. I like it despite all the flaws. So many flaws.

Similar to the first book of the Sun Sword series, this book took a LONG time to get into. But it picked up a LOT about halfway through. I finally managed to plow through and look forward to the rest of the series. All of the necessary exposition in the beginning can make it hard to slog through.
I picked up this book because the two names used by the main character are the names of my children. But this was a BAD thing. There were parts in the beginning that were very hard to read thinking of my daughter. I was able to separate from that as the book went on.

It definitely didn't go the way I thought it would. I liked it, but I prefer the "Chronicles of Elantra".
