Found it very slow, and the ending was just not the best… the ‘secret’ was very obvious and not a surprise

I wasn't very motivated to read this book. It was really long and it felt like the story was flat. I expected more dimension, especially with such a complex story plot. I felt like it ended exactly where it started. What's the lesson here?

I enjoyed the story, Koomson never lets me down. The emotions underlying are sometimes subtle but when they build and explode they leave such an impact. There's always a sense of bittersweetness with her stories but this was another good book by this author.

Love Dorothy Koomson!

A woman running from a dead end relationship moves in with a man and this six year old twins. The man is in the beginning of what looks to be a difficult divorce. The kids are upset that their mum is gone and their father is a bit of a work-aholic.

The woman steps in and starts to bond with the kids and the father.

First, a warning: don't start this book if you have stuff to do in the next, let's say, 48 hours. Because once you've started reading it, there's no putting it down.

I've read this one right after finishing My Best Friend's Girl and at first, the similarities were a bit much: abandoned kid(s) who attach themselves to a total stranger and change her life forever, heroine with huge problems of self-confidence, gorgeous man in the background.

But the more I was reading, the more different I realize Kendra and Kamryn were.

The story is really extremely touching and deals with a lot of heavy topics that I won't mention here in order not to spoil the plot.

The best thing about Marshmallows for Breakfast were the twins! Dorothy Koomson creates the best kids in literature IMO. They have enough flaws to appear credible and yet they are so totally perfect in every way!

Each section is named after a breakfast dish and that's the kind of silly little detail I adore.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book a lot and was sad to see it end.
