I love Eddie Collins. Especially his grumpy, no-nonsense approach to anyone who rubs him up the wrong way – which seems to be most people he works with.

Interestingly though, when he gets the note, he seems to forget everything he has learned in his job and drives straight into danger’s arms.

This is a very quick, entertaining read that keeps you glued to the pages until you can breathe a sigh of relief at the end. For a short thriller story I also found myself giggling at Eddie’s demeanor in the face of death as Andrew Barrett somehow manages to make Eddie seem very real, which is exactly the sort of character I like in a book.

Thank you to the Andrew Barrett for access to this book in return for this honest review.

The Note is a short story featuring Eddie Collins from the CSI Eddie Collins crime series.

The story is told in the first person by Eddie himself.

It’s actually really hard to know what to write as a review for this book. With it being short I fear that if I mention anything about the story itself I will give something away. So I had better not.

What I will say though is this is a short, dark and intriguing read. For a short story it certainly packs some punches and was nothing like what I had envisioned it would be, mainly because I had my own thoughts at the beginning where the story was going to go. This is why I would never make a detective as did not see what was coming, at all!

The book cover promises of something dark and disturbing within the pages and the author delivers on that promise. The Note is a great little read that is sure to be a hit with fans of Eddie. Don’t panic if you haven’t read any of the series though as it easily reads as a stand alone.

My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

Wow! This was a great short story and a very quick and exciting read. Eddie Collins is called to process a crime scene and has a run in with the detective. After going back to his office he finds a note which is very distressing. He heads home to a surprise! He’s ambushed by a woman who is not too pleased with his continued existence. Here’s where the twist comes in.. he knows her from his past. Once the police arrive, twist #2!

This is a great read and I highly recommend it. Will continue to read more by this author. I received an advance copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The Note is my introduction to CSI Eddie Collins and it is quite the introduction! This is part of a series that is being re-published by Bloodhound Books. Eddie tells the story himself and it pulls you in from the beginning as Eddie is at a crime scene! You can see that Barrett took his experience of being a CSI to the page for his readers. I am sure the rest of the series is just as good as The Note. I would be interested in reading more of his stories in the series. It can also stand by itself as a standalone story, but why stop here? Keep on reading!

The Note is dark and disturbing: Eddie is a far from perfect person, but this is why you end up liking him. The description intrigued me which was why I wanted to read it; and I had no idea that it was going to go in the direction it that it did! This short story makes me want to know more about Eddie.

If you like crime stories, give The Note a try! It’s short and can be ready very quickly, so you have nothing to lose.

A gripping, quickly to read short-story. If you don't already know CSI Eddie Collins, this is the perfect opportunity to make his acquaintance.

With two different storylines coming together, this is a real page-turner that will keep you glued to the pages until the very end.

As always, Andrew Barrett writes a fantastic, deeply researched and interesting story. And as always with this author, too, this is a recommended read.

Thanks to Bloodhound Books for the free ebook copy in exchange for my honest review. Check out my blog for more about the author!

As you may know, I’m a huge fan of short stories. Man, does this one pack a punch in just under 100 pages. THE NOTE by Andrew Barrett is the perfect choice if you’re wanting something twisty that you can read in one sitting. It’s always so difficult reviewing short stories without spoiling the important parts!

The synopsis gives you all that you need to know, but prepare yourself for an eerie and thrilling read that will leave you feeling paranoid. I definitely had one of those, “look over your shoulder” moments when I finished up. I loved THE END OF LIES, and this one did not disappoint. I can’t wait to see what Barrett comes up with next.

I give this 5/5 stars!
