Whilst I did enjoy reading this book, the story itself was very negative, with no message of hope. This is most definitely what Friel was intending to do, but it made reading it difficult at times. The subliminal messages within this were very clever and well done, and I am glad that my university course gave me the chance to read this, but it is a book I will not be returning to in a hurry.
