The most depressing thing about the Star Wars prequels was not the armies of CGI Lego men or the tax dispute story line, it was watching iconic, charismatic characters transformed into snarky little bitches.

This is the magic of Mark Millar's writing, he manages to make superheroes all appear irritatingly petty and shallow, with the added bonus here of domestic violence in the Pym family, starting with Hank punching his wife in the face.

It's a very unpleasant experience being inside Millar's little world.

But... The art is so great. This was one of the first comics I came back to after abandoning them in my 20s and it's so, so good. I grew up with 80s Spider-Man, then got bored of the 90s big hair Image comics thing and Rob Liefeld excesses. This is just a beautiful comic to look at, and I've ended up going back to it a few times just for the art. Next time I just have to remember not to actually read it.

A great reboot of The Avengers! Kick-ass action sequences! Didn't really care for the constant celebrity name dropping though.

I read this so fast I didn't get a chance to post it in my currently reading list. I liked it but I also just saw the Avengers animated movie a couple months ago so there was some extreme deja vu. This is a new, origins of the Avengers so not a lot happens other than the group forming. But there are some real cool things in it.

First off this was written around 2002 and Nick Fury is black and looks a lot like Samuel Jackson. Then he says, "when they make the movie the only person that could play me is Samuel Jackson." Which, if you watched all the credits in the Iron Man movie, turns out to be a prophesy fulfilled. Also Thor turns out to be a total anti-corporate activist hippy instead of the haughty, holier than thou hero we're used to.

The Avengers was always one of my favorite comics growing up so I may end up reading more of these if I can get them. I'm hoping to see Hawkeye (he is mentioned) show up and I'd like to see what they do with the Wonder Man story line that I only slightly remember from way back when.

This book was all kinds of fun..until my husband took it away from me for giggling while he was watching TV. I snatched it back and ran and got to finish it..so there!

You've got Bruce Banner who is working on a super soldier gene so that other's can be like the Captain America of old. Little does he know that they will find the original Captain frozen in the Antarctic ocean. The guy looks good for being on ice for so long.
Other scientist's the Pym's (Giant Man and the Wasp) working on gene research also and that makes old Bruce feel a bit weak. Especially since he is no longer the Hulk. He had the Hulk gene's removed from himself. Boo Hiss.

After awhile Bruce Banner breaks down and Hulk is back. Back with a vengeance.

I cheered, laughed and cussed this book. Yes..a comic book. That's how good it is. Go read it. Now..before Hulk gets angry again.

I think this is the book that my friend Hulk-boy Goldblum boy recommended to me. If so thanks!!! Yes, I'm old and can't remember.

Simple and lazy in many forms. This was a book that really let me down. Full if culture references, this is not a book that will stand the test of time.
