Postern of Fate by Agatha Christie

Probably the worst book I have read of Agatha's so far. I can't believe this book was written by the same person who wrote books like "And then there were none". Most part of the book is full of dialogues and hardly any action. There is nothing like a puzzling mystery. Listen to gossips, talk to people. Repeat the same facts and talk about previous adventures (N or M). That's it. I kept thinking that the last part of the book may be fast paced, but sadly even that did not have much to offer. Pretty disappointing book, considering that it is the last book written by her.

Very chatty sort of mystery. Not much happens beyond visits to people and conversations with other people. A rambly sort of book, in which you never really get beyond the basics of the mystery until the grand reveal at the end. Bit unfair, that, to hide the clues you'd need to solve the mystery until the last three pages. Seems like cheating. But Tommy and Tuppence are just adorable.

Although this is the last in the Tommy and Tuppence cycle, it's the only Tommy & Tuppence I've read. If the other reviewers are to be believed, it's the weakest of the bunch, which hopefully means a great deal of enjoyment in my future. I love the concept of aging the detectives in real-time.

So bad! I appreciate that Ms. Christie was getting on (very such so ) in years and her mental capacity was declining, but as there not even an editor for this book? Early on in the book Tuppence meets a character then a couple of chapters further on it is suggested that she talks to this person.

There is too much of nothing going on and that doesn't change through out the book.

Luckily, Christie's are always an easy read so I do not feel I wasted a load of time reading it.

Remaining invested in a mystery whilst not even knowing the suspects is... taxing, to say the least.

Tommy and Tuppence are a very nice couple, but their interactions get dry after a while, and Tommy’s interactions with his various contacts in particular were rather tiresome. Many interactions in this book also felt rather meaningless. Not even the concluding chapter saves the novel - truth to be told, nothing is really revealed, and nothing slips into place. There is no satisfaction in a mystery without epiphanies on the part of the detectives.

It is certainly true that Christie wasn’t exactly in her prime when she wrote this novel. However, that does not change the novel’s quality.

Agatha Christie is always a nice, comfortable read. A good little story and I particularly like Tommy and Tuppence. I'll have to keep an eye out for other adventures of theirs.
