If Johnson’s Come and Join the Dance puts a female perspective on the beat trope of the (male) wandering, existential, and enlightened figure that is supposed to symbolise a universal experience, In the Night Cafe tells that story from the perspective of the often long suffering and overlooked wife of that male figure.
