Losing Lucas, Yugo, and some of the kids was hard, but I appreciate that The Promised Neverland is willing to let its characters die (aside from the main three, let's not get too crazy). While saying anything that happens in this story is "realistic," considering Emma and Ray were able to prepare and execute an escape at 12 years old and only NOW are some of their family members dying, but I feel like those unrealistic qualities are balanced out by the dangers that they face. Yes, they're always able to overcome evil, but not without having multiple wrenches thrown in the plans. And it's not like their adversaries are cardboard-cutouts of mustache-twirling villains; each is smart, capable, and willing to do what they need to so they can survive. I know it's easy to look at the relatively low death count and dismiss so much of this as plot armor and such, and your opinion is definitely valid, but volumes like these that show that cruelty in full force balance out the rest in my opinion.
I'm so curious to see where the series is going from here, this volume introduced so many new characters and ideas that it nearly made my head spin. The next volume is the newest one released in the US (that's not an online version) so after that one I'll have to wait until June. I only hope I'll be able to...
