My coworker let me borrow his copy of this book after hearing that crows are my spirit animal. Absolutely worth a read if you have any interest in this most common of backyard wildlife - and cultural force to be reckoned with. Marzluff's style, while vivid and illuminating, can be a bit dry, so I found this to be a book I absorbed in small chunks at a time. However, the studies and observations he lists, the behaviors he describes, and the cultural coevolution he postulates are all fascinating and enlightening. I give this book a hearty recommendation for those looking to dig deeper into the corvid world.

Compared with Marzluff's more recent publication Gifts of the Crow, this is maybe 2.5 stars -- too much listing of various interesting observations rather than large-scale study. That said, it's still full of fascinating info.

More anecdotes than science. Would have liked to learn about the evolution of crows, differences between crows and ravens... But the anecdotes were interesting..
