The writing in this volume is the strongest this series has been. Despite being a high-action series about vampires in the South, there is more here pertaining to psychological states, self image, relationships, and mending past wrongs.

Good. GRIEF. It was an overall interesting slowdown for the story, and then the final five pages just tear up everything and create this dynamic new reality. I really cannot wait to see where they go next.

The art was a bit rough in places -- it drifted away from purposely and stylistically sketchy to in-a-rush-to-finish sketchy. And now I'm thinking about it, the story felt a bit interstitial, like a reset and regroup between two bigger pieces. But still, I liked it!
