Why I love this book:
1. I love that the characters have inner dialogue. "Francine," she said to herself, "you've never encountered a pig before. This is a career-expanding opportunity."
2. The vocabulary. "unmentionable horror"
3. The best part of this book is that Chris Van Dusen added Mrs. Watson reading a copy of "Because of Winn-Dixie" in the first illustration of the book. Awesome.

"Where have all the flowers gone?" shouts Eugenia.
Mercy is in trouble with her neighbor again! It's a madcap adventure on whether Mercy will see buttered toast again.
One thing I don't like is that Mercy frequently doesn't have to pay the consequences of her actions, but she is a pig!

My 2015 review: I really think these are the perfect starter chapter books--short chapters, plenty of fun, bright pictures, and lots of silliness. Forrest loves them!

My 6 year old's rating and review in 2016: "It was funny when she ate the flowers! And I was kind of scared that the officer would get her but I see there is a 6th book so I knew she wouldn't catch Mercy."

Another cute mercy Watson story. My son's favorite characters are Eugenia and baby Lincoln and they have a prominent role in this pig tale. He also loves predicting mercy's cravings for toast with butter. I enjoyed mercu's upset at attending a tea party with only imaginary food.

Mercy Watson likes to eat pansy's. Mercy's neighbor is planting trays of pansy's around the house and Mercy goes and eats them. Eugenia is livid and I would be too. She calls animal control. They all end up around Mrs. Watson's table for buttered toast. There is no talk of compensation. I have to stand on the side of flowers and destruction of property.

Still, this is some madcap goodness right here. I have enjoyed this series and it is a fun read for beginning readers. This might be my least favorite of the 6 Mercy Watson stories, but it was enjoyable. Kate is a wonder of an author.
