This was such an unusual read and I think that the only reason that I haven't given it a higher rating (Graves & Sendak in the same place is a delight) is because the adults get a bad press! Graves isn't really known for his work for children but rather [b:I, Claudius|18765|I, Claudius (Claudius, #1)|Robert Graves|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388185810s/18765.jpg|4232388] and [b:The Greek Myths: Vol. 1|510569|The Greek Myths Vol. 1|Robert Graves|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327196945s/510569.jpg|8809972] This a transgressive story of a lad who's rather spoilt and is annoyed at his uncle and aunt for consistently badgering. He's also fed up of their rabbit-chasing dog (who's very cute in the illustrations). What IS very interesting is that the locations that Sendak uses in his pictures are the same locations that Beatrix Potter uses in her own work. Perhaps, the same cheeky attitude of the boy in the book is mirrored by Sendak's own cheeky attitude of stealing images and place from Potter herself.

I love being reminded of just how much I love Maurice Sendak.
Today's reminder was coming across and reading THE BIG GREEN BOOK by Robert Graves (illustrated by Sendak) while reclassifying books.
