Another great book in the Jessica Darling prequels! Loved it. Great read for middle school girls.

I'm going to be mad if Megan McCafferty makes us read monthly instalments all the way up to the beginning of Sloppy Firsts.
I'm going to be mad, but I'm going to do it. Obviously.

These books take me right back, and that's why I read them. I love having new Jessica Darling material, like all of us still here.

I feel like there's a couple of inconsistencies with the original series, and I'm sure someone else has already fact checked them in a review somewhere.

But hands down my biggest problem is that I'm afraid she's going to truly mess with the original series at some point. It's not that I don't trust McCafferty...but...well... I remember books 3 and 4...
I'm reading these because of He Who Shall Remain Nameless (obviously). But I also spend most of them wondering how he can be so present? At some point this is going to have to go one of two ways: a heartbreaking exit (heartbreaking only in that we're all so attached) or a confusion of the events of the original series.

I'm starting to think these books are less prequel and more alternate universe. This one is probably the best and most fun so far, with some really sweet moments. All of the characters felt very much in the spirit of earlier books, and it's clear we're going to be introduced to younger versions of some others.

Even though I am (as of today!) 28 years old, it still doesn't feel like that long ago that I was worried about the same things as Jessica. Heck, sometimes I still have to worry if what I say comes across as jerk-like, instead of the joke I intended. And I think to young girls struggling with the same issues, these books are perfect. One of those that cross the bridge between upper juvenile and young teen.

That said.. as much as this makes me miss the original series, this is not, and cannot be, my Jessica Darling. In the series I grew up with and loved, this modern day Jessica is out of place.

I love Jessica Darling, but for some reason this one fell flat for me. I think the prequels are wearing thin and I need to revisit the originals. That being said, I’d probably read more prequels if they were written.

Abrupt ending to a series...

Hilarious, made me laugh aloud multiple times. It's a fluffy series, but it has some great messages. Hopefully a 4th book is being written since the ending absolutely sets it up.

It's not a secret that I absolutely love Jessica Darling. This is my favorite of the middlegrade prequels to her YA/adult series.

If, like me, you are a huge fan of Jess and Marcus Flutie, this is going to be your favorite, too. :) The two of them are circling around each other for most of this novel, too, but there is a pretty fun development toward the end. (Still no kissing, but still.)

I also love the fact that we see Hope and Jess really starting to click as friends, and I love seeing that. (We also get to know Hope's brother Heath; that's less fun because, as we learn in Sloppy Firsts, he dies of a drug overdose.)

I love Jessica Darling and I just want more of her life. (Can we get sequels, maybe? I want to know her as an adult, too!)

This ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I hope that there's at least one more of Bethany's lists floating around somewhere.

Recommended.
